Safety Officer Workshop: What's The Hurry?

Why does EMS have a culture of being in a hurry?  From responding with lights and sirens to competing against the clock in our daily operations, the EMS prefesssion holds a perception that rushing or being in hurry equals good care. This session will look at the past, present and future of EMS as it changes from a “load and go” culture to one thats focused on safety, outcomes and data-driven patient care.  This session will explore:
  • EMS education and formative process (where does this hurried culture come from?)
  • The imposers (how the media, public and others impose their beliefs that EMS needs to be in a hurry)
  • Patient safety perspective
  • Quality and Outcomes Perspective
  • Human factors component

Lee is the Patient Safety Director for EMS Services at the Center for Patient Safety. Lee is a certified Just Culture Trainer and a Certified Professional in Patient Safety. Lee is also a founding member of the National EMS Safety Council and an active member of the NAEMT.
