Working Where the Road Ends: How Did I End up in Alaska?

After a quarter of a century working in one of the most violent cities in one of the most densely populated states, I found myself working in a place where there are more caribou than people.  The culture, the risks, and resources are vastly different between these two regions - except for the fact that people still call 911. Doing resource management for a coverage area the size of West Virginia with less than a third of what I had for a single city provides a unique set of challenges.
