When Childbirth Goes Wrong: Managing Complications in Field Delivery

Childbirth is a rare occurrence in the pre-hospital setting.  The majority of cases involve an uncomplicated delivery of a healthy newborn.  This presentation will prepare EMS providers for the rare, but stressful circumstance of dealing with complications during delivery.  Among the topics discussed include:  breech presentations, shoulder dystocia, prolapsed cord.  We will also address basic neonatal resuscitation principles and potential maternal complications following delivery.
