Reducing preventable harm to patients is comprised of theories, concepts and actionable steps. Furthermore, reducing preventable harm is not a race but rather a journey as it requires a plan to reach a destination of safer care.  The EMS Patient Safety Boot Camp is designed to support leaders in developing their patient safety plan or enhancing their current plan.

The Boot Camp is an EMS specific, hands‐on workshop that educates attendees on patient safety foundations and theories.

The program builds the framework of understanding patient safety concluding with the development of a customized patient safety plan for attendees.

The program is designed to develop internal patient safety champions or support the development of a patient safety specialist as well as any EMS leader, educators and medical director who desires reducing preventable harm.

Presentations are in TED talk type of fashion which are followed by facilitated small group workouts that are completed in the workbook.   An electronic version of the workbook is also given to each attendee that has 22 patient safety tools and resources.

The workbook offers a template of the patient safety plan which is completed during the day and guided by a prioritization matrix for next steps.
