Stop Blaming Volunteers: 10 Public Safety Leadership Pitfalls and How to Avoid Them

With the growing trend of public safety department closures, it's convenient and safe for administrators to point to a shrinking culture of volunteerism. However, the very real question these leaders should ask is "do people not want to volunteer, or, do they just not want to volunteer to work for them."  This class will discuss the link between effective leadership and retention and describe the most common pitfalls of leadership and how they are linked to employee loss. Specific strategies will be discussed to improve leadership capabilities and real world examples will reinforce the lessons.
